20th Anniversary of LOESCHE India
LOESCHE India celebrated its 20th anniversary on 28th February 2015.
Up until 1995 LOESCHE operated in India through its licensees or collaborators. Realizing the potential in the cement industry, especially after the opening-up of Indian industry in the early 1990’s, Dr. Thomas LOESCHE decided to set up a fully owned subsidiary of LOESCHE in India.
Shortly thereafter, LOESCHE personnel working on Indian projects were able to identify a team of local engineers who were well versed with LOESCHE mills. Accordingly, a core team of 5 personnel with entrepreneurial spirit was selected by LOESCHE GmbH to constitute LOESCHE India as a 100% owned subsidiary company on 28/02/1995 with its registered office in New Delhi. Amongst these persons were: P.C. Abraham, A.C. Goyal and K.B. Sharma who are still part of the management of LOESCHE India and celebrated their personal 20th anniversary together with the company.
In these 20 years have P.C. Abraham , A.C. Goyal and K.B. Sharma proven leadership, technical know -how and perseverance, and made LOESCHE India to what it is today. Dr. Thomas Loesche is proud and grateful that so many employees in India remained true to LOESCHE over the years, so look some up to 20 years , but many also back at 19 , 18 or 17 years common success.
LOESCHE promoted an innovative business model to source the mill systems from local fabricators and manufacturers on the basis of design drawings supplied to LOESCHE India under the technical collaboration agreement. This business model was subjected to a lot of criticism by LOESCHE competitors who later themselves followed this principle after realising its success.
The maxim of LOESCHE was to have a lean organisation without the intricacies of running a workshop and where quality was paramount and subject to stiff controls. LOESCHE India was the first company in the group to be accredited with ISO certification by BVQI in the year 1999 due to its well laid-out procedures. These procedures are consistently monitored by surveillance audits from time to time to ensure the continuity of the system and the renewal of the certificate.
LOESCHE India has been successful in fostering the spirit of partnership with its sub-vendors as it fully comprehends the Indian business environment.
Even before the company was formally registered it acquired its first order from M/s. Dharani Cement which was subsequently taken over by Grasim/ Ultratech,
Thereafter, orders followed from M/s. Madras Cement and Dalmia Cement. In 1997, the first order for an LM 46.2+2 clinker/slag mill from M/s. OCL & Dalmia Cement was received. This practically became the reference plant for LOESCHE the world over. The experience gained in commissioning such clinker/slag mills strengthened the company’s credentials for strong customer care & service orientation. This was followed with the first LM 56.3+3 mill at OCL. Thereafter repeat orders were received from M/s. Madras Cement, Dalmia Cement and OCL, proving the success of LOESCHE GmbH and LOESCHE India.
The biggest success in terms of order value came with the acquisition of 16 LOESCHE mills from the Ultratech group. This order consisted of 5 LM 69.6 raw mills, 8 LM 53.3+3 clinker mills and 3 LM 43.4 coal mills. This was probably the largest single order for the LOESCHE group up to this time. In the meantime, LOESCHE India has executed orders not only in India but in Bangladesh, the UAE and Nigeria. Presently, the company is erecting 7 coal mill grinding plants for Dangote Cement, Nigeria. This is probably the first corporate project being jointly handled by LOI, LOG, LAG, LMS and LN.
Prior to 2005, the installation and the commissioning of the mills was done by engineers of LOESCHE Germany. Realising the necessity of creating manpower for the technical field services, a training program was developed in close association with LOG. Today a pool of qualified engineers for installation / commissioning and ECI activities is available. This service is not only for local use but extends to other subsidiaries of the LOESCHE Group.
A meeting of technical field supervisors from China, Russia, Indonesia etc. is organized every year where these people can exchange their experiences. LOI has also strengthened its engineering department to serve the global requirements in the fields of plant layout, duct engineering, machine design and R & D. They are also willing to take over more responsibility in supporting LOG and its subsidiaries to be more competitive in the market.
LOESCHE GmbH congratulates LOESCHE India to it’s 20th Anniversary and is looking forward to a continiung good cooperation.
